Don't mess with geese.

This morning a blue heron landed at the near edge of the pond and I ran to grab a camera. By the time I got ready to start snapping pictures the nesting pair of geese had jumped in from the far side and had swam across the pond looking for a scrap. The heron was no match for a rampaging gander.
Getting Ready

This would scare me.

Heron is no match for the goose.

The camera is an Argus Cintar. The story was that my dad won it in a card game while on the boat home from WWII. I have no way to confirm that for sure but it's what my mom told me, so... It was the camera that recorded the big events of our lives.  It captured pictures of our births, our holiday outfits, meals and gifts.  It went along on vacations and captured the posed family group pictures.  This camera took the photos you see there plus a few albums full that I didn't have room for here and a pile of slides that we would view projected onto a bare wall in the living room.  Exposure was determined by following a chart that came with every roll of film. The flash required Sylvania Blue Dot bulbs that came mounted to a strip of cardboard. Finding old pictures

Whenever I dig into my old stuff the question always creeps into my head, "What would I tell that kid if I could tell him anything?" You are going to do OK for yourself but in a quiet, unspectacular way. He (I) already knew that. In fact I took that for granted. You are going to lose people that mean the world to you and you will never stop grieving for them. I knew that too ( we all do ) but I would have never admitted as much, preferring to only recognize those bitter truths as I was being run over by them. I suppose I couldn't resist giving some sage advice but I wouldn't listen to myself. I remember making a point of not acting on good advice when dispensed by anyone professing to know what life was really about. All in all it's a good thing time travel isn't possible.
